What Is Missing Remains

What Is Missing Remains
Documentary in pre production

AT/De, 80 min.
D: Katharina Brunner & Lukas Ladner

Synopsis: Intimacy, sexuality, and closeness are often described as “the most beautiful side issues in the world.” For Nikolai, Martin, Susi, and Max, however, they are anything but self-evident. Society places numerous barriers in their way. The film follows the four young adults as they stand up for themselves and their needs, confronting an ableist world.

What Is Missing Remains is a project that does not merely address inclusion as a theme, but takes it seriously as a guiding principle across all areas of filmmaking. Our aim is to work as accessibly as possible—before, during, and after production—and to make the perspectives of our protagonists visible in a respectful, self-determined, and eye-level manner. The film understands itself as a shared process in which the needs, accessibility, and participation of people with disabilities are a central component of the artistic work.
